Yoga FAQs
What are the benefits of yoga?

Each student is encouraged to participate in an internal retreat, focusing on breath and allowing all aspects of oneself to come together, leading to physical, mental, and spiritual benefits. It is not unusual for participants to experience several changes including but not limited to:

Improved flexibility

Improved concentration

Improved body awareness

Improved core strength

Reduced stress

Improved weight maintenance

More positive outlook

Do I have to be very flexible to participate in yoga?

Absolutely not. While it's true that some forms of yoga incorporate more advanced postures, each person who attends a Balanced Bodyworks class is encouraged to practice in accordance with one's own ability, always understanding and listening to the body and its limitation.  Furthermore, modifications and variations of postures are often offered to ensure comfort and safety.

Will I have to chant or make noise during class?

It is not required that anyone do anything with which they are uncomfortable. Some classes may begin or end with a chant to unify the group, but this will be based on the class' comfort.

How long is a yoga class?

Typically yoga classes are 75 minutes long. However, classes can be designed for shorter or longer periods of time depending on the clients request.

How should I dress for the yoga class?

It is best to wear clothes that allow for maximum flexibility and comfort. Sweat pants, yoga pants, and comfortable shirts work best.

Structural Integration FAQs

What is Structural Integration (SI)?

Structural Integration is a 10 session series of bodywork that utilizes myofascial techniques to orient the body around a vertical axis, thus improving its relationship with gravity, typically resulting in increased energy and well being.

How long is a SI session?

Structural Integration sessions are typically 75 minutes in length but may be slightly longer or shorter depending on the client.

Why are there 10 sessions?

Restructuring the body takes time and patience. We use 10 sessions to adequately interact with the entire body. Clients will benefit most when the changes are made slowly and over time so the body can adapt to its new structure.  We focus on different and specific parts of the body each session and no session is ever the same.

Do I have to do all 10 sessions?

In order to be properly integrated it is best to do all 10 sessions. This is something you will only have to do once in your life. After the initial 10 sessions it may only be necessary to occasionally do "maintenance" work to make sure the body is utilizing its new structure properly.

How should I dress for the SI session?

SI sessions are performed with partial clothing. Usually, clients can wear a bra, sports bra, or bikini top, with similar bottoms.

Is there any lubricant used for the SI session?

In order to effect the deepest layers of tissue, no lubricant is used. Some cocoa butter may be used if the skin is particularly dry.
